A Motor of Innovation for Over 125 Years

Today’s Breuer-Motoren GmbH & Co. KG Elektromaschinenfabrik (Breuer Motors) was founded in Bochum, Germany over 125 years ago, in 1877. Company founder Carl Breuer originally operated the company as a coal exporter. After the death of Carl Breuer in 1890, his authorized representative, Mr. Koenig, took control of the company and developed it into a supplier for the mining industry. In the next few decades, the company added a repair center for mining machines and began designing and producing firedamp-proof motors with explosion-proof enclosures.

In 1936, control of the company passed over to Paul Bärwinkel and the Chaudoire family and it was incorporated as a limited liability corporation (GmbH). After the death of senior partner Rudolf Chaudoire, Karl Linnepe ran the factory as the sole managing partner. He has also been the company’s sales director since 1960. Linnepe’s son, business graduate (Diplom Kaufmann) Dirk Linnepe, has worked for the company since 1996 and became CEO in 2004. He and his sister, Claudia Simons, have been managing partners since January 2001.

During the past few decades, Breuer Motors has acquired an excellent reputation as a reliable partner of the mining industry. The company’s innovations, particularly in the area of mining technology, have paved the way for its success.

To set our course for the future, we successfully developed and are now producing drives of up to 2.7 MW that can be speed-controlled for applications in non-explosion-proof industrial sectors such as special vehicles, test benches, rail vehicles, and oil and gas drilling rigs.
